Prescriptions
Do I need a prescription to place an order?
Yes. We require a valid prescription for every order. If you don’t have a copy of your prescription, you can still order contact lenses from us. You’ll be able to select your eye doctor from our expansive database. All you will need is your eye doctor’s name (or clinic name) and city/state.
After you submit your order we will act on your behalf to quickly verify or obtain your prescription information. We are required by law to verify your prescription with your doctor. This helps to ensure that we provide you with the correct contact lenses in your order. If you would like your order to ship immediately, you can fax your prescription to 1-800-875-9851 or email it to
sorders@1800contacts.com (please include your customer number). Also, your eye doctor can simply fax us your prescription information. If your eye doctor refuses to give you your contact lens prescription, please visit our
What You Need to Know page.
How do I know if my prescription is still valid?
Under a new federal law your prescription is good for a minimum of one year and, depending on the state you live in, some prescriptions are good for two years. Most importantly, this one year time period is from the date your eye doctor gives you a copy of your prescription - not from the date of your eye exam. We are advocates of proper eye health and we encourage our customers to receive regular eye care. If your prescription is expiring or has already expired, a customer service agent will remind you to visit your eye doctor for an eye exam and to receive an updated or new contact lens prescription. For more information about this topic visit our
What You Need to Know page.

International Orders
What do I do if my order ships outside the 50 United States?
The U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Canada and the U.K are considered international areas. International or APO/FPO addresses require a specific shipping address format on the "Shipping and Payment Page". For APO/FPO orders, select United States in the country field and then AE, AA or AP in the State field. For city information, enter APO, FPO or the city/base name. If you’re still having trouble, please call 1-800-266-8228 or
click here to receive an immediate phone call from a customer service representative.
What do I do if I have an international eye doctor and prescription, but I am shipping within the 50 United States?
These orders can’t be filled on the website since orders shipped within the 50 United States require your current eye doctor's contact information and a copy of your contact lens prescription. First, fax a copy of your prescription to 1-800-875-9851. Then, call 1-800 CONTACTS (1-800-266-8228) to order or
click here to receive an immediate phone call from a customer service representative.

If you have any questions, please call 1-800 CONTACTS (1-800-266-8228) for assistance.
What do I need to know if I am shipping to an international address?
International orders may experience additional shipping delays. You may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are charged once a shipment reaches your country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be paid by you; we have no control over these charges and can’t predict the amount. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you should contact your local customs office for further information. Additionally, you must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you’re receiving the goods. Manufacturer restrictions prevent us from shipping certain products to some geographic locations.
Orders shipping to Japan will only be allowed a two-box quantity or a two month supply. O2 Optix orders will not be shipped outside North America (with the exception of APO/FPO shipping addresses). Additionally, we can’t ship to Mexico or Spain.

Company Information
How can 1-800 CONTACTS offer savings compared to most eye doctors?
It's pretty simple—high volume, low overhead and a single-minded focus on contact lenses.
High Volume:
The average eye doctor's retail store usually sees only a few contact lens wearers every day. The typical store usually has to save up orders for a few days or even a couple of weeks in order to get any quantity discounts from distributors or manufacturers.
We deliver approximately two tons of contact lenses every day (about 150,000 contact lenses). We don’t wait around to order your contacts; we already have them in stock. In fact, we stock almost 10 million contact lenses and by purchasing lenses in such large quantities, we are able to pass the savings on to you.
Low overhead:
It would take more than 2,500 retail optical locations to sell as many contacts as we do. Rent is not cheap and someone has to pay for it. Until now, that someone was you.
Single-minded focus:
We are a contact lens company. We don’t sell eyeglasses or membership clubs. We are focused on having the highest possible percentage of contact lenses in stock at the time an order is received. Our goal is to provide you with the fastest, easiest and most convenient way to replace contacts - by phone, mail, fax or the Internet.
How many orders does 1-800 CONTACTS typically fulfill in any given day?
We fill on average over 5,000 orders - or approximately 150,000 lenses - every day and ship 90% of all orders within 24 hours.
Who staffs the 1-800 CONTACTS call center?
We employ more than 250 local call center representatives who receive extensive training in ocular health, contact lenses and customer service. About 90% of calls to our call center are answered within 10 seconds and another 90% of contact lens orders are filled within 24 hours.
Why order from 1-800 CONTACTS?
Direct delivery to your door, lower prices and faster service. Plus, we make it simple!
We sell more contact lenses than 2,500 retail optical stores - but we only have one location. With the largest inventory of contacts in the world, we are able to stock most of the parameters that customers order - with very few exceptions. In fact, we have many contact lens parameters in inventory that are only stocked by two companies (1-800 CONTACTS and the manufacturers themselves). We even stock most
colors,
torics,
bifocals and
multifocals.
Most contact lenses are not custom made anymore. Daily wear and disposable soft contacts are made by automated equipment in very large quantities on heavily automated production lines. As a medical device, they must be nearly identical every time - no matter where they are sold.
You will receive the exact same contact lenses from us as you have been getting from your eye doctor's store - the only difference is the delivery to your door (and the lower price).
The average customer saves about $20 to $50 per year by ordering from us. However, if you’re already going to a large national optical chain or a really competitive optical store, you may find that you only save $5 to $10 by ordering from us. Don’t forget to include the time you saved by not making another trip to the store.
We will also keep your prescription, address and billing information on file. If you move or if you’re traveling and need more contact lenses, we can have a replacement lens to you as soon as the next day.
We sell more contacts than the next five largest direct competitors combined. There is a reason for this. We keep things simple and we deliver on our promises. We don’t charge membership fees and we don’t use gimmicks to attract new customers.
In addition to our already low prices and free shipping on all web orders over $50, we now offer special quantity discounts and rebates online. Quantity discounts and rebate promotions are shown at the top of the product and checkout pages. Simply adjust your quantity on the checkout page and the discounts/rebates will automatically be applied to your order.
How does 1-800 CONTACTS compare?
Your order is more likely to be in stock at 1-800 CONTACTS than anywhere else in the world. No other competitor can even come close to our inventory or speed of service.
We offer consistently low prices, free shipping on Internet orders over $50, quantity discounts, rebates and the best possible level of service - whether you’re ordering online or need live assistance on our 800 number.
There are a few questions to ask when considering a direct source for contacts:
Do they offer free shipping on Internet and mail-order contact lens purchases?
We offer free shipping on Internet orders over $50 and include an automated re-order slip on each invoice. All you have to do to re-order through the mail is check the box on the re-order slip and drop it in the mail or just return to our website and click "My Account" from the home page to re-order online.
Do they charge a membership fee?
We never have and never will. Some competitors actually hide the membership fee and notify you only after the order has been placed.
Do they have a large inventory? Are my lenses in-stock? Can they fill my order quickly when I need contacts?
We have the largest contact lens inventory in the world. Some competitors have a very small inventory on hand. Some have none at all.
Can I speak with someone if I have a problem?
We are available by phone 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
We aren't a web-only company. Some competitors operate out of a basement with little or no inventory and no live help on the phone. We have over 250 trained agents ready to answer any questions and help you with your order (over 90% of calls are answered within 10 seconds). We realize that, while the Internet makes ordering easy and efficient, it is nice to be able to pick up the phone and speak with someone if you need help.
Corporate Policies
We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all orders. If you order a large supply of lenses and your prescription changes, you may return the unused lenses, as long as they are sealed in their original packaging. Once we verify the new prescription, the lenses are replaced with the new prescription and resent to you. Torn lenses can also be replaced.
