Q:
when I ordered my daughters contacts they didn't ask what color. I did this online. Do they not come in different colors?
Asked on 6/29/2010 by maggie moo from turners falls mass

A:
The Acuvue Oasys lenses are not available in color. If your daughter wants to wear colored lenses, the doctor would need to write a new prescription for a brand that is offered in color.

What does dia mean?
Asked on 6/29/2010 by Anonymous
Know the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
1-800 CONTACTS Customer Care
A:
"Dia" refers to the diameter of the lens, or how wide it is across the center. This is one of the measurements that helps determine how the lens fits the eye.

where on the box can i find my contact's BC?

A:
The BC should be written on the side of the box along with the power and DIA. It will be in a blue box and written in white. It is a number that will start with an 8 or 9, such as 8.4.

Q:
Do these boxes have a shelf life? For instance, If I wanted to order 8 boxes per eye, and the contact last me about 1 month per pair then you figure 6 lenses per box so 48 pair total that would last me about 4 years. I want to make sure these lenses do not expire in a year or two.......If I order today, what is the expiration date on the lenses? I have an HSA Card that I want use up.

A:
They do have a shelf life, it's printed on the box. There's no guarenteed way to know what the date is before you buy them. Anyway, I won't purchase more than 1-2 years worth because your prescription could change. Also, these are 2 week lenses.
Answered on 6/24/2010 by BB from USA
A:
There are expiration dates marked on the boxes, usually lasting for a few years. For instance, I bought a box in summer of 2009 and the expiration on those is marked August 2013. Hope that helps!

Not everyone has the same prescription for both eyes, that is why there is the option. You don't have to buy a box for both eyes if you don't want to.

No, contact lens prescriptions are brand specific so the brand is actually part of the prescription. Also different brands come in different sizes and curvatures so you will need to be fitted for a different brand.

I currently wear Acuvue Advance and want to try the Acuvue Oasys because my eyes get dry, but the base curve on the Advance is an 8.3 v/s 8.4 on the Oasys. Will this matter?
Asked on 5/5/2010 by PJ from Georgia
Know the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
1-800 CONTACTS Customer Care
A:
The base curve is a measurement that helps determine how the lenses fit your eye, so a change in BC will make a difference. Because each brand comes in different sizes and is made from a different material, prescriptions for contact lenses are brand-specific. That means you would need your eye doctor's approval to order a new brand. Your doctor will check to see which base curve will work best for you and will write that on the prescription.

If you only want 1 box to wear between both eyes then you can select either the right or left eye to order for. If you want more than just the one box you can then adjust the quantity box to at least 1 per eye.

Asked on 5/3/2010 by Anonymous

1-800 CONTACTS Customer Care
A:
Unfortunately, you cannot change to a new brand without consulting your eye doctor. Because every brand is unique, made from a different material and sized differently, prescriptions for contact lenses are brand-specific. Since your prescription does not match the specified measurements for the Acuvue Oasys you will want to contact your eye care provider. In order to change brands, your doctor would need to write a new prescription for that brand, which should also include the correct corresponding base curve measurement.

BC stands for base curve, which is a measurement that determines how the lens will fit your eye. Prescriptions for contact lenses are brand-specific because each brand is made from a different material and comes in different sizes. The Acuvue Oasys lenses do not come in a BC of 8.6, so your prescription is most likely for a different brand. You may need to clarify your prescription with the doctor, or we are available 24/7 to help you correctly enter you prescription at 1-800-266-8228.

If you know the prescription hasn't changed, you can order the same thing you got last time. The numbers should be on your contact lens box, or in your account if you are a repeat customer. We will always verify the order with the doctor for accuracy before it ships. If you later find out the prescription has changed, we will gladly take the lenses back for an exchange or refund.

A:
Insurance coverage varies with each plan. You will want to contact your insurance provider to obtain the details for what coverage you may have for contact lenses. 1-800 CONTACTS is considered an out of network provider by most major vision insurance companies, so if you have out of network coverage, you would pay for your lenses up front and turn in your order invoice to your insurance company for reimbursement. For many vision insurance companies, we can actually send you a claim for with your order to make it simple.

A:
Unfortunately, we are not able to make any recommendations to adjust your prescription. Prescriptions for contact lenses are brand specific, and as a result, the measurements you've been given will only fit the brand your eye doctor has prescribed. In order to change brands, you would just need to have your eye doctor write out a new prescription for that brand and the corresponding measurements for base curve and diameter.

Unfortunately, we are not able to make any recommendations to adjust your prescription.
