Contact lens care while traveling

Based on our own experience (and the number of last-minute contact lens orders we ship out), we know a vacation is secretly one of the most stressful things you can prepare for. There are so many arrangements to be made it’s super easy to overlook contacts on your packing list. 

But even when you do remember them, not every vacation will be the most hospitable for contact lens wearers. Here are some tips to help you travel well with contact lenses. 

Be prepared

While you may have remembered your contacts, it won’t do you any good if you forgot to bring solution. Contact lens solution should be changed at least once every 30 days. There’s nothing like a last-minute eye infection to really disrupt your fun vacation plans. Bringing a small bottle of solution, just in case, is never a bad idea. 

Along with the solution, you may as well throw in an extra lens case.  

It’s always a great idea to pack your favorite keep-in-the-back-of-the-drawer backup glasses. This is especially true if you have a high prescription and are traveling outside of the US. If something goes sideways with your contacts at least you’ll be able to see what you’re doing and enjoy the sites. Just don’t forget to take them off for photos. 

Carry-ons

Losing your luggage is not fun. It’s even worse when your luggage had your whole supply of contacts in it. Instead of packing them in checked luggage, bring your contacts in your carry-on. Even if you can’t fit your full supply, having a few back-up pairs could save you a massive headache later (literally).  

Pro move: pack your prescription

The ultimate pro traveler move for contact lens wearers is to have an extra copy of your prescription.
