When it comes to choosing the right glasses for your face shape, it's important to know which shapes and sizes will flatter your features the most. While there are no hard and fast rules, there are some general guidelines that can help you find the perfect pair of glasses for your face shape.

Finding your face shape

First, it will be helpful to identify which type of face shape you have. The shape of your face is primarily determined by four factors: face length, forehead width, cheekbone width, and jawline width. Here are some general characteristics of each face shape type:

Triangular faces - These face shapes are best characterized by high, wide cheekbones and a narrow jaw creating that classic “v” shape.

Round faces - Usually the easiest to spot with their rounded hairlines and wider jaw width, round faces stand out against the other angular face shapes.

Oval faces - These face shapes share a lot of similarities with round faces but the length of their forehead, cheekbone, and jaw are dead giveaways. Your face is longer than it is wide.

Square faces - Identified by equal lengths in your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline.

Rectangular faces - Similar to round faces and oval faces, rectangular faces are longer than they are wide but share many similarities with square facial features.

Diamond faces - This face shape is surprisingly similar to oval faces, just with more angularity in your cheek bones and jawline.

Heart-shaped faces - Lastly, heart shapes faces are characterized by a wider jawline, cheekbones wider than your forehead, a narrow chin, and a strong widow’s peak.

Finding the perfect pair

Now that you know what face shape you have (or at least have an idea), it’s time to find the perfect frames to accentuate it. These tips, of course, aren’t set in stone or hard rules. Every face is beautiful, and these tips are meant to help you accentuate your natural features.

Round faces

You may want to choose glasses that have more angular frames. This will help to add definition to your face and make it appear longer and slimmer. Rectangular or square frames are often a good choice of glasses for round face shapes.

Oval faces

Lucky you! This is considered to be the ideal face shape for glasses because almost any frame shape will look good on you. However, if you want to add more definition to your face, you may want to choose frames that are wider than your face. This will help to balance out your features and make your face appear more symmetrical.

Square and rectangular faces

Consider glasses with round or oval frames. These shapes will help to soften the angles of your face and give it a more balanced appearance. You may also want to avoid frames that are too wide, as this can make your face appear even squarer.

Heart, diamond, and triangular faces

If you have a heart-shaped face, you may want to choose glasses that are wider at the bottom. This will help to balance out the narrowness of your chin and give your face a more balanced appearance. Frames that are wider at the top may also be a good choice, as they will help balance your facial geometry.

No matter what your face shape, it's important to try on different glasses and see which ones look and feel the best on you. Don't be afraid to experiment with different styles and sizes to find the perfect pair of glasses for your face shape.
