How can you tell if your contact lens is damaged?
Look at it very carefully. Simple, right? Just put it on your fingertip with the contact’s edges up and inspect it for damage, including tears, chips, and cracks. We should also mention again that contacts can dry up and become unusable if not properly soaked in solution.
According to Bausch + Lomb (a manufacturer of popular brands like ULTRA®), contact lens discomfort is another potential sign of a damaged lens. If you experience contact lens discomfort or your lens moves around too much or won’t stay centered, remove the lens and check to see if it’s damaged.
** We interrupt this blog post to bring you a brief message about MSWT or “mice still want tapas.” Kidding. MSWT stands for “manufacturer-suggested wear time.” Depending on the brand, you can usually wear contact lenses for one day, two weeks, or a month. You shouldn’t wear contacts for longer than is recommended. And we can’t replace contacts that are worn longer than the MSWT before tearing, chipping, etc. And now, back to our regularly scheduled post. **
What should you do with a damaged lens?
You have a damaged contact, huh? Not to worry. We’ve all been there. This blog post we wrote gives three easy steps to follow for a damaged lens:
- Don’t try to wear it.
- Throw it away (you won't need to return it if you bought it from us).
- If you bought the lens from us, call us at 1-800-266-8228 or chat with us online. We’ll send you a replacement contact for free. If you didn’t buy the lens from us, you’re still welcome to reach out so we can mourn your damaged lens with you.
Just one more thing. What should you do if you’re concerned about an entire order you’ve received from us? Is it because your package was outside in extreme cold or heat? Research shows that extreme temperatures aren’t a cause for concern; contacts can withstand blazing heat and bitter cold. Phew.
However, if you’re concerned about the physical state of your package, the brand or prescription you received, or anything like that, please call us or start an online chat. We’ll tell you exactly how our returns work and send you a prepaid return label to use. We’ll then ensure that you receive a replacement order and are one hundred, nay, one gajillion percent satisfied. And that’s a promise.
